Determine the service you need depending on the Month and Season we are in:
Crabgrass Prevention Application
The most common pre-emergent is crabgrass preventer; this is usually applied to the turf around April 15th - May 1st. Crabgrass germinates after soil temperature has reach 55 degrees for several days in a row, so if we keep having these cool days you could hold off a few days.
It must be used before the crabgrass seeds have sprouted. To apply the preventer, we use a lawn spreader or garden seeder. It is then applied uniformly across your lawn, making sure not to miss any spots. Once applied, you'll need to water your lawn consistently to ensure the crabgrass preventer/fertilizer is activated.
Broadleaf weeds & Crabgrass Prevention Application
Broadleaf plants have relatively broad leaves, whereas leaves of grasses and sedges are bladelike. Leaves of broadleaves have one main vein from which smaller veins branch. Spurge grasses, knotweed, burclover and black medic are broadleaf weeds that grow in lawns with low nitrogen fertility, compacted soil or are closely mowed and have open areas. Annual and perennial sedges become established in lawns that are overwatered and have poor drainage.
Grub Control Application
It is often best to put down grub preventers from April through mid-July when grubs are ready to hatch. If you want to stop grub damage right away, the best time to apply a grub killer to your lawn is when you first see signs of damage.
The caterpillar to moth life cycle is never ending. When the grubs feed on the lawn and mature into a moth, the moths will hover over your prized turf and lay eggs that will hatch into grubs. This continuous cycle will cause your entire turf to be affected.
Lawn Inspection Summer Weeds & Insects
Applications consist of pre-emergent, fertilization, and spot treatment for grassy weeds. This minimizes spring & summer crabgrass problems & broadleaf weeds.
Seeding and Aerating
Aeration involves penetrating the soil and creating small holes that allow water, air, and nutrients to reach the roots of the grass. Overseeding involves spreading grass seed throughout the yard to encourage new grass growth. Power seeding is efficient and fast. It shows more timely results in terms of germination and new grass growth. There is less labor involved as with traditional overseeding, and it uses less grass seed.
PH Analysis Of Your Lawn
A healthy lawn needs soil with a balanced pH level- usually between 5-7 depending on the type of grass. If the pH level is too high (alkaline), you can add sulfate with a broadcast spreader. If your pH level is too low (acidic), you add lime the same way.
Winterization- Helping your plants come back stronger
next spring
Snow will melt eventually and provide soil moisture, but an even bigger advantage is covering the ground and holding the existing moisture in place. That way by the time spring comes around our soils should be ready for planting. The best time to start winterizing gardens is after the first hard freeze in the fall. A hard freeze occurs when the temperature gets below freezing overnight, killing off tender annual plants and vegetables.
